Growing up, my parents always had a camera around: either a handheld video camera, or digital.

Sony Cybershot DSC-W80 7.2MP
Most of my family memories are taken on the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W80 7.2MP Digital Camera. I like this camera because nearly every photo taken comes out clear. If you're considering this camera, don't hesitate: do it.
The camera is great in daylight as well as in the nighttime with flash. You also don't have to stand around for ages once the shutter is pressed: photos are taken relatively quickly. The new version seems to be the vlog camera ZV-1F.
Canon PowerShot ELPH180 20MP
I bought this camera in 2023 on Facebook Marketplace for $40. Today, I saw one online for $450. While I wouldn't pay $450, I'd definitely go up to $200. That should tell you all you need.
This camera will not let you down unless you drop it and the lens gets stuck -- this can happen to any digicam, be careful!! True story, I know from experience sigh.
Nikon Coolpix Range
The Nikon Coolpix range is a classic for a reason: they do the job! I can recommend the Nikon Coolpix L20, S3300 or S6400 -- the latter for fun color options. I don't have much else to say about it, because it's just as comparable as the two previous.
Sony Cybershot DSC-T700 10MP
Yes, I love the Cybershot family, you got me! This Sony Cybershot is the next iteration of the above, and comes in way funkier colors like hot pink, teal, and lime green. I would, without a doubt, repurchase a lime green or blue version of this camera any day.
Honorable mention: the Polaroid I‑Zone Instant Pocket Camera
The Polaroid I-Zone Instant Pocket Camera featured several colorways between the 1990s to mid-2000s. It took photos which were instantly printed on little sheets that pulled out and could be used to customize items.
I remember living in Singapore, seeing this camera in the stands at the mall. I must've been five or six at the time, but I used to beg my parents to get me one. They never caved, but the dream still lives on.
Understandably, allowing a child to have a camera like this would also mean stickers everywhere, and multiple repurchases. (I respect my parent's decision.)
Camera I'm buying this year: Kodak Pixpro FZ55 Digital Camera
The Kodak Pixpro FZ55 Digital Camera picked up a Japanese camera award this year. Cheaper than some 2000s cameras, I'm going to have to pick this over vintage. I mean, I was using old digicams for all my life, why not join the present?
Hopefully this camera lasts more than a couple of years -- I'll share my review after playing around with it for a while!
